What changes for an installation in Faro
The Algarve has the best irradiation in Portugal and a consumption profile of its own: tourism, hotels and holiday rentals (alojamento local). We have a published case study of a 60 kWp system at a hotel in the region, where the decision came down precisely to sizing for real consumption instead of filling the roof.
Tourist consumption is concentrated in summer — air conditioning, pool heating, laundry, kitchens — exactly when production is at its highest. Few activities match load and production so well, which is why hotels usually get their return without needing storage.
With holiday rentals the logic changes: out of season the house uses little, and much of the output would be exported to the grid at a low price. In those cases we size on real average consumption, even if that leaves space on the roof.

A technical note from our team
The whole Algarve coast is a saline environment, and many establishments add pool chlorine and kitchen steam to it. We use A4 stainless steel and anodised aluminium without exception. On flat roofs and terraces, ballasted mounting avoids piercing the waterproofing, but it means checking the slab's load capacity before going ahead.
